How to overcome depression / anxiety II Jey

HOW TO OVERCOME DEPRESSION / ANXIETY
An attempt on help and selfhelp

I´ve been checking a lot of social media posts about depression and anxiety. I´ve been doing my research, because I had to. I couldn´t let myself drown in something so unknown. So I did my research and I started following people who inspired me. I made lists, yes, yes, all the stuff.
But what I wanted to disclaim is that I am not a doctor, you should not only rely on internet help, when you think you´re in need of help. Depression, as every other desease is a very delicate thing. Everyone experiences it in a different way. And any therapy can´t be applied to everyone.

So read me, talking about this delicate issue.
When you´re in a depression, you have already won, because you know you´re in depression. Did you hear of the saying: ain´t over till the fat lady sing? To me, this means, that one does not realize he is in a situation until someone or somewhat is screaming loudly at one. So, with depression you might encounter a lot of other health issues as well:
Your dentist might tell you, you have a bad breath. He might tell you, you have over sensitive teeth, probably you´re grinding your teeth at night. That´s a common sign for stress. Do you have stress?
Your answer might be no. But the fat lady is singing.
Your immune system might crash down, you´d be infected in your eyes, in your lungs, everywhere.
So when your body is aching, try and ask yourself if you are in stress.
And then relax/release. Do all you possibly can to become loose. You should be very careful about each and every detail.
I recently read about one more common symptom, which comes and goes with depression; it´s insomnia.
When you can´t sleep basically your whole perception of day and night gets lost. I´m talking about your concentration and your level of happiness during the day. If you´re lacking sleep and relaxation in the night, you will have problems going through your everyday routine. You will have problems concentrating, interacting with people at your office, etc.
And that brings me back to my point earlier on. Stay with me.
You might not understand why, if everything to you seems the same. Same march like last year, same party you went to the other year, same friends, family, same food. Nothing major happened? Well, let me tell you every day is different from the other and basically time happened to you. You might think, oh, I used to be a funny person, now I don´t smile or laugh. I used to be upright, my back used to not hurt. Everything has changed even if you try hard to think nothing has changed. Even if you don´t want it to.
To me, presonally, I have a really hard time looking at myself, my actions or feelings. When I bathe right in that blue moon I´ll never be able to tell: I´m sad now. I´d say things like: I´m fine. How are you! Hoping you are the one taking over my reality with your life.
Yes, you are in a depression when things go wrong. You have a depression when you think something is wrong.
Only thing for you to do is to change. You can start with changing your nighttime routine (very helpful when you have trouble falling asleep):

1. when you come home from work - go for a walk.
when you have to eat before - go for a walk after dinner.

2. Try to avoid screens, internet, electricity (white noise)
you will probably want to check your social media, other people´s social media when you come home. Your favorite show on tv is on, it used to help you relax. Here´s the thing: the white light, the speed audio and video is broadcasted in, doesn´t support any relaxation.
Remember maybe how kids get active after watching tv. Some parents would reward their kids with half an hour of their favorite show on tv before going to sleep. But the super bright white screen and the fast cuts and high pitched voices of characters are not supporting any calmity. Kids will be even more active, parents drenched in tears.

Your argument could be: But I must watch the news in the evenings to stay updated. No, you must not. Who said so? If something major happens, like Angela Merkel resigning or whatever you consider as important, people on the streets will let you know. Possibly on your evening walk you´ll see the headlines on the evening issue newspaper. You will not miss anything. George Clooney will still be married to his beautiful Amal. And you don´t have to know where on earth they are having their vacation. And as funny as this is. As it applies to knowing about the local government deciding weather or not to have seperate bins for bio and plastic.

other people´s social media: yah, it may be highly entertaining what´s cooking in other people´s kitchen, but I heard about a theory, that seeing other people immediately gives you a feeling of other people have more and you have less. Just remember you are very sensitive, you are supposed to take care of yourself the best you can. So creeping on other people´s lives will never give you true feelings like victory, learning, progress, happiness. It gives you inspiration, but DIY.
Stagnation should be your enemy. Learn something, teach something, read, listen, educate yourself.

3. I must include: because many say that they have lost already all their interests. They have no hobbies. They are not friends with anything or anyone.
I must strongly disagree. You have made it already about thirty years into your life. You must have some kind of interests. Once in your past a thought should have developed. Start easy, don´t go from depression to mountain climbing. Make a simple stupid list ( I hate lists too, if that helps you ) : What are your likes and dislikes? This helps you remind yourself of your character.
(Have you seen the movie `Inside out`? Watch it, it´s a session at your psychiatrist for free)

4.To be honest I´ve been collecting these tips also from the internet, but I can tell you, that they really helped me, and I liked the brief form of 1., 2., 3.
So here´s to number 4. Try autogenous training. There are a few videos on youtube if you search for autogenous training. It´ll be hard for me to explain to you the complexity of autgenous training. But it is a twenty minute video you can listen to, when you have a feeling it´s time for you to go to sleep.

5. Eat proper food. Educate yourself on ingredients, vitamins, fibers, carbohydrates, etc. It is a beautiful topic, it is worth it having a look on. You could help someone else with answering their questions.
To sum it up: if you have a fatty dinner and a lot sugar in the evening your digestive system will have trouble relaxing, hence you will have trouble sleeping.

6. have a body contact with another person. touch yourself, touch each other. Let yourself be touched. Tell them where they should touch if you don´t like them touching certain parts.
Stroke a cat. cuddle. experience with all your senses: eyes, ears, skin, nose, taste.

ok, I wrote a lot.
Excuse my grammar. I had just to get that off my chest.
