have you heard of the Travemünder Strand? It is a beautiful, beautiful, more than beautiful place here in the North of Germany. Travemünde is a borough of Lübeck and connects to the Baltic Sea (in german the `Ostsee`). It has a bright beach with lots of space for bathing / sunbathing and camping. We´ve been there for half a day and enjoyed it a lot. Let me take you all along.
I wanted to take loads of photos but as I am so used to taking videos I always neglect to take photos and end up with 30 minutes footage of video and 3-4 actual photos. I´ll be a good camper next time and provide you with more photos of the beautiful scenery.
So here´s the video I put together for your consideration:
Of course you can find all sorts of information about Travemünde in the internet. I will not copy and paste any of these but I have to mention that Travemünde is a famous seaside resort since 1802. Which you can imagine makes them professionals in hosting tourists, providing them with all things necessary.
First time I´ve been to the seaside in Travemünde, we were travelling with the train. The Travemünde train station is a tiny terminal station which opens up to the beautiful scenery of the beach. Meaning when one exits the station one finds directly few touristic shops, restaurants, hotels and a nice alley down to the beach. No directions needed. No map needed. One is promptly in vacation heaven. The hotels and restaurants are one floor buildings only (except for that one hotel which is the sky high hotel with several floors - postcards tripod in hotel form).
If you´ve ever been to a beach in Italy, South of France or even Mallorca Travemünde can be named right with them. More pitoresque beach resorts I found in the Netherlands maybe.
So, besides those beach activities one can do, like playing volleyball, playing with any sort of beach racket and ball game, sailing, eating ice cream, renting one of these beach huts (roofed wicker beach chairs), having picknick, etc. We did only a few things: I ate delicious melted ice cream (yummy but not recommended, not sure what was wrong with this ice cream place inside the hotel), my boyfriend went for a jogg along the beach (showers provided if you find 20 degrees celsius of Baltic sea water too cold). We also just layed in the sun until late (7pm :) ). I took a bath in the sea, which threw a lot of waves, it was a lot of fun. I also ate my full doggy bag I took from home, the wind is so crystal clear, it makes you hungry immediately.
Yes, we left at about 7 - 7:30 pm which was a big mistake, as half of the people from the beach seemed to live also in Hamburg, the Autobahn plus the provincial alternative route was packed. Everywhere ´Stau´. It took us two full hours for a distance of 45 min.
All in all, I highly recommend a trip to the beaches of Northern Germany.
I hope you liked it
